Course Information

The aim of the course is to provide candidates with the basic understanding and practical skills involved in becoming a Vehicle Banksman. During the course the delegate will learn how to direct traffic safely on a worksite, adequately controlling any risks. By the end of the course they will have a thorough understanding of all the risks involved with directing highway traffic and vehicle movement, and be able to carry out the role of Vehicle Banksman with complete confidence. They will also be issued with a Certificate to evidence their capabilities.

The Vehicle Banksman training course begins with an introduction and aims, setting the tone for the course and outlining the goals that will be achieved. Next, regulations are discussed, ensuring that participants understand the legal requirements for safely maneuvering vehicles. The HSE film Dead Slow is shown to emphasize the importance of following proper procedures.

Participants will learn about the roles of both the driver and banksman, understanding the responsibilities and communication necessary for safe vehicle maneuvering. Key issues that may arise during reversing and maneuvering are discussed, with a focus on how to handle these situations effectively. The course also covers danger areas to be aware of when maneuvering vehicles.

To ensure proper communication between the driver and banksman, participants will learn and demonstrate recommended signals. Theoretical and practical assessments are conducted to evaluate the participants understanding and application of the course material. This comprehensive course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to safely maneuver vehicles in any situation.

Our centre is easily accessible with two entrances, one of which is wheelchair and impaired friendly. We provide tea and coffee for refreshments, but please remember to bring your own lunch. To find us, simply enter 24 as the postcode, which will bring you to the top end of the street. We are situated next to Maurice Parker and have allocated parking spaces for the Training Society. Accreditation

Upon successful completion of the Vehicle Banksman training course, candidates will receive a certificate of achievement from the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme NPORS.
