Course Information

The aim of the course is to provide candidates with the basic understanding and practical skills involved in operating a Slinger Signaller. By the end the course, all successful candidates will be able to execute a pre-shift inspection and operate a Slinger Signaller safely and correctly in accordance with accepted good practice and NPORS standards. They will also be able to operate the machine safely under varying site conditions and carry out minor adjustments and routine services. We will also ensure that delegates have a thorough knowledge of the responsibilities under all relevant health and safety legislation.

Course Agenda

The N402 Slinger Signaller training course covers the essential knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively operate as a slinger signaller. The course begins with an introduction to the current legislation, including the LOLER 98 regulations, which all slinger signallers must comply with. This is followed by an in-depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a slinger signaller.

The course then moves on to cover the important topic of pre-use inspections of lifting tackle. This includes learning how to identify and assess potential hazards and defects, as well as how to properly store and maintain lifting equipment. Slinging angles and techniques are also covered, along with the calculation of safe working loads SWL and working load limits WLL. Participants will also learn about the effects of load movement on lifting equipment.

The course also includes training on signals, as per the guidelines outlined in BS7121. This ensures that participants are able to communicate effectively with the crane operator and other team members during lifting operations. Handling loads of various weights and dimensions is also covered, as well as the theoretical and practical assessments that participants must complete in order to successfully complete the course. By the end of the course, participants will have the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently carry out their duties as a slinger signaller.

Then, follow the A509 ramp to Wellingboro/M. Keynes and take the 2nd exit at Little Irchester Jct onto Turnells Mill Ln. After the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto London Rd and continue on Gipsy Ln and Wollaston Rd. Finally, turn left onto Irchester Rd and then left onto Hinwick Rd.
